What’s Going On In The London Antiques Market This Summer?
The Economist reported this month, as follows “IT IS either an embarrassment of riches or overkill. Either way, the abundance of art fairs in London… is a dramatic departure from how things looked a year ago. Then, London’s prestigious Grosvenor House Antiques and Fine Art Fair was closed down after 75 years. Pundits blamed the bad economy. The actual reason was that the owners of the Grosvenor House Hotel believed they could earn more by using the space for other purposes”.
The article then discusses three June antiques fairs – including two new ones! Interestingly they comment “Collectors have come to prefer buying at fairs to entering sometimes intimidating private galleries. That is one reason why dealers take part. For them fairs are also a great way to meet new clients”.
We at the Decorative Antiques & Textiles Fair believe that our antique fair is never intimidating: Far from it.
