… The editor of World of Interiors, Rupert Thomas, introduces the magazine’s December issue by reminding us of the importance of gold throughout history, how “it has always conveyed authority, prestige and power” and that our fascination with it “continues to be reflected in the rooms we inhabit”. 

Gold can be an investment commodity, a fabulous piece of jewellery or a glittering decorative item.  From gilded furniture to shimmering contemporary wallpapers, gold brings a warm glow to decorating schemes.  Introduce a single statement piece in contrast to simple surroundings, or use it liberally in ‘decorative flourishes’. 

At the Decorative Fair, you can find lots of antique and 20th century gilded and gilt metal items, from mirrors to lighting to furniture – and we are particularly fond of that very soft shade of un-restored vintage gold, which is so much more subtle than new…
