20th Century Mirrors, Lighting, Furniture & Art All Sell Well
A few more examples of what was selling at the April Decorative Antique & Textiles Fair
Dominic Bayne (new exhibitor) – was very happy with sales, including a stunning large curved Italian 1950s sofa with brass legs, upholstered in silk mohair, ticket £xxx and a 1960 Fontana Arte ceiling light designed by Max Ingrand ticket £xxxx, along with several glass centre/coffee tables, side tables and seats, wall lights and accessories.
Sean Berg – “I had a fair Fair”, with notable sales including a 1970s steel desk by Willy Rizzo ticket price £xxxx, and a very unusual original working drawing of an Austin Healy 100 (1950s) sold for £xxxx. A wide array of lighting and mirrors sold well. Sold to his usual mix of decorators and private clients, but more of the latter than at recent fairs, and several were new customers.
Interior Eden – “Delighted”, a very good Fair, sold a wide variety of 20th century small chairs, sofas, and lights, including a pair of 1960s ‘sputnik’ style glass and metal chandeliers ticket £xxxx; a set of 8 Fornasetti drinks coasters; and some chairs to the designer Nina Campbell.
Kiki Design – very pleased with sales (“better than January Fair”), notably a black lacquered English 1960s sideboard by well-regarded makers Portwood Furniture (Stockport), ticket price £xxxx; a pair of Thonet chairs, a 1960s French oak & hand-stitched straw bench £xxxx, a pair of English c1870 painted wood framed mirrors, and a pair of French 1930s Chinese-style bone inlaid lamps with original shades ticket price £xxxx. Sold to a good mix of new and past clients, trade and private, including Americans.
Quindry – made numerous sales to decorators, including a curved Italian 1950s sofa upholstered in velvet, ticket £xxxx.
Gazelles – sales were strong for Art Deco accessories and lighting. They also sold a group of watercolour drawings for a Shelley design called Intarsia by Frederick Rhead, the head designer, to a new customer who also bought a piece of Intarsia ceramic to go with them!
Caroline de Kerangal – happy; pleased with steady sales across the board including lighting, pairs of chairs, and an oak and upholstered sofa designed by Guillaume & Chambron, c1960s ticket price £xxxx. “Better than April 2008!”
Tim Smith-Vincent – “A good Fair, we’ve done well” – sales included a Pair of Merrow Associates side tables, English 1960s, ticket £xxxx; a large globe Murano glass vase, Italian c1940s/50s, ticket price £xxx; a Terence Conran woven wicker garden set of four chairs and table, c1950s ticket price £xxx; many mirrors, a lot of lighting, and smaller decorative items.
Fiona MacDonald – in the first day sold a 1930s walnut writing table ticket price £xxxx, a six-foot long glass oval Italian table, ticket price £xxxx, and a small mirrored 1920s cabinet. Made sales to American decorators.
